National University of Ireland Maynooth (NUI Maynooth or NUIM) was founded by the Universities Act, 1997 as a constituent university of the National University of Ireland. It is Ireland's second oldest university, tracing its origins to the foundation of the Royal College of St. Patrick in 1795.
The University draws inspiration from a heritage that includes over 200 years of education and is a place of lively contrasts. It is a modern institution, dynamic, rapidly-growing, research-led and engaged, yet grounded in historic academic strengths and scholarly traditions.
NUI Maynooth is located in the historic town of Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland, 20 km west of Dublin. Its grounds consist of two connected campuses; an older south campus of 19th century buildings, shared with St. Patrick's College, and a modern north campus, occupying circa 100 acres.
The University is internationally recognised for the quality and value of its research and scholarship and its dedication and commitment to teaching.
NUI Maynooth has an international reputation for research in humanities; social and spatial sciences; mathematics, communication and computation; and human health. This research connects directly with the teaching, and with wider societal needs through a very successful knowledge transfer office.
The institution has grown rapidly in recent years, but retains a student-centred and deeply collegial ethos.
The University has three Faculties – the Faculty of Arts, Celtic Studies and Philosophy; the Faculty of Science and Engineering; and the Faculty of Social Sciences, which offer programmes from undergraduate to doctorate levels in a range of disciplines including the traditional humanities, music, education, anthropology, media studies, business, basic sciences, social sciences, computer and electronic engineering.

Accommodation On-Campus
STUDENT ACCOMMODATION FIRST YEAR STUDENTS
Students may wish to live on campus because of a medical, welfare or mobility issue.
There are a limited number of places available and campus accommodation cannot be guaranteed even where a student meets the criteria. Campus accommodation is allocated for one year only and students must reapply each year.
Approximately 1,200 students live on campus. The main campus accommodation is situated just a short walk to all lecture, sports and recreational facilities on the North Campus. Currently more than 50% of all campus accommodation is reserved for first year students.
Demand for places in on-campus accommodation far exceeds the number of places available.
River Apartments: A 111 apartment complex on the North Campus in 15 halls of residence.
Village Apartments: A 48-apartment complex on the North Campus offering 240 beds in four halls of residence.
Rye Apartments: A 20-apartment complex on the North Campus arranged in three halls, in a mixture of three and four bedrooms.
The average annual cost of renting on the campus runs from between circa €4,200 and €6,000 depending on your choice of room and facilities. The online booking system opens for prospective first years in early May. This is a first come first served process, which allows you to choose the room type you want within the budget you have planned. Unsuccessful CAO applicants receive a full refund of the booking fee paid to secure the room.
OFF CAMPUS
The Accommodation Office provides two services; Homefinder which is an information and listing service can be accessed on www.maynoothstudentpad.ie and contacted on Homefinder.service@nuim.ie. Students should note that the accommodation has not been inspected by the University and Maynooth University does not carry out Garda Vetting on prospective Landlords. For this reason they should be cautious and always try to visit the accommodation in person before paying over any money or agreeing to stay.
Students can choose to live with a host family for one semester or one year. ISA also have a range of one-semester or one-year apartments for rent in Dublin which are particularly suited to international students.
Competitive scholarships for talented graduate students to gain funding at the University are available, for taught masters and research programmes
